Privacy
Your book is yours. This page says what Chapter & Worse keeps, who can see it, and how to have it removed.
Last updated 4 November 2026
What we keep
- Your name, email address and profile picture from Google, when you sign in. That's how we know it's you.
- Your books: chapters, notes and saved versions of them.
- Your plan: when your free trial ends and when you last signed in.
- Who you've invited to a book, and which AI apps you've connected to your account.
Who sees your books
- You, and the people you invite to a book. Nobody else, us included, reads your writing unless you ask us to help with something.
- To run the service we see your name, email address and plan, and how many books and words you have. Not their titles or their text.
- An AI reads your book only when you connect one, and only the books you can open. It can't change your manuscript. What it reads then falls under that AI's own privacy terms (Anthropic's, for Claude). You can disconnect it on your account page at any time.
- We don't sell anything about you, show advertising or use your writing to train an AI.
Where it's kept
- On our servers, in Sydney, Australia: the app runs on Vercel and your books are stored in a MongoDB Atlas database.
- On your own devices: a copy of your books, so they open without a signal. Signing out of a device doesn't erase that copy; clearing the site's data in your browser does.
- One cookie to keep you signed in, and two more that last ten minutes while you sign in with Google. No tracking or analytics cookies.
- A count of visits to this website's public pages: the page, the name of the site that sent you, whether it's a phone or a computer, and a random number kept in your browser so you aren't counted twice. It isn't linked to your account, doesn't run once you're signed in, and each record is deleted after six months.
Your say
- Your books are kept until you delete them or ask us to, including after a free trial ends. An author can delete a book from its Settings page. You can download a book from its Snapshots page.
- Ask for a copy of everything we hold about you, or for your account and books to be deleted, at hello@chapterandworse.com. Deleting is permanent.
- If this page changes in a way that matters, we'll tell you before it applies to you.
